The Bengal cat was bred from a domestic cat and a Leopard Cat (a small wild cat with leopard like markings), this gives the cat its wild look. The gentler domestic cat temperament has been evident in later generations of this breed of cats and it is important to talk to the breeder to ensure that the cat you are considering is at least four generations from the original Leopard Cat.
The Bengal is a high maintenance cat that is hyperactive and requires plenty to interest and stimulation to discourage any destructive behavior. They are an intelligent breed of cat that does not like to be left alone for long periods of time. The majority of Bengals are not lap cats, apart from on their terms. Bengals can be trained to walk on a lead and they have a love of water. This breed of cats are extremely vocal.
Diet has to be carefully monitored as these cats are susceptible to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. They are also prone to heart disease. Bengals are likely to live approx. 13years
The Bengals are medium to large cats, with coats that are typically spotted and their legs are striped horizontally. Marbled patterns are also featured with some of this breed. Brown, seal lynx point, sepia, mink and silver are all recognized colours.
