Border Collies for sale

The Border Collie is an extremely intelligent dog with a huge capacity to work. They need to be kept occupied both mentally and physically and suit an active family life style and space to expend their energy. Without the companionship and activity to stimulate and challenge the Border Collie they can become destructive. Obedience classes will be most beneficial and will be rewarded well as these dogs are quick and keen to learn. They are agile, graceful dogs and perform well in shows.

They are a good natured and affectionate dog whose primary role is to herd tirelessly on the land. They have also proved to be excellent as search and rescue dogs. The Border Collie is becoming more popular as a pet and for shows. Show dogs and working dogs can appear quite different as one is bred for looks as a priority whereas the working dog is bred for performance.

The Border Collie has a range of colours that are acceptable by show standards, although black and white is the most common. It has a moderately long dense double coat that will require a considerable amount of grooming. This dog’s eyes can be brown, amber or blue

Border Collie's are a moderately sized dog being 18-22inches tall and weighing 27-45 lbs.

The Border Collie is generally healthy, though like any dog there are certain medical conditions that they have a predisposition for. Ceroid Lipofuscinosis is a rare but rather alarming disease, with symptoms of marked behavioural changes and extreme aggression. Other more known conditions include congenital eye disease, hip dysplasia and epilepsy. Cancer is responsible for the death of nearly a quarter of this breed of dog.

They live for about 12-14 years.
