A gentle giant would aptly describe this impressive looking dog. They make good companions and are extremely devoted to their owners. This dog is protective and loyal, making it a wonderful guard dog whose appearance alone leaves little danger of intruders feeling welcome.

It would not be wise to leave such a large dog alone with small children who could easily be knocked over. They are intelligent and can display a stubborn side. Obedience training from an early age is strongly recommended in order to prevent unwanted behaviour as the dog grows to adult size.

This massive muscular looking dog weighs 45-50kg and reaches a height of 23-27”. They are fawn in colour which can be in a range of shades. Their coats are short and hence grooming would not be arduous – a frequent brush would be sufficient to remove any loose hair.

Dogues require space and a daily walk, exercise should be limited with a puppy to allow normal skeletal development and prevent hip dysplasia in adult life. Being such a large breed there is a tendency for this to develop.

Correct development of the mandible can also be problematic with the dogue. Turning in of the eyelids can be troublesome. Life expectancy is approx 10-12 years.
