Golden Retrievers for sale

The Golden Retriever originated from Scotland, where they were used as gundogs, well known for the gentle way in which they retrieved game without damaging it. Sir Dudley Margoribanks kept a breeding record from 1835-1890 and he and later Baron Tweedmouth were very much the pioneers of this beautiful breed. Margoribanks goals were to breed a more vigorous powerful retriever than previously whilst keeping the qualities of being gentle and trainable.

Golden retrievers have a sociable steady temperament and that together with their intelligence and aptitude to learn quickly make them an ideal breed to use as guide dogs for the blind, and hearing dogs for the deaf. They are also commonly used in hunting, drug detection and as rescue dogs.

They are popular as family pets, and make lovable loyal friends with the whole family. They have a reputation for being patient with little children. They are eager to please, and keen to learn new skills. Retrievers require plenty of exercise they enjoy long walks and have an affinity for water

Their colours range from cream to golden shades. They are a medium sized dog approx 20”-24”. The dogs are larger and heavier than the bitches. Dogs weigh 27-35kg and bitches 26-32kg.

Unfortunately Golden Retrievers are prone to a variety of conditions including hip dysplasia, a blood disorder called Von Willebrand’s disease which affects the dogs ability to form clots. They also have a tendency to cancer.
