Rottweilerï¿½s have had some bad publicity, and in some cases it is well deserved, however with firm handling they can prove to be loyal and devoted dogs that are very trainable. They are used as guard dogs and suit this role well, serving the police force and military. They are usually docile and responsive to good leadership. The Rottie is active and will thrive on as much exercise as you can provide, they are protective and make wonderful companions.

The Rottweiler is a strong, muscular, and heavy set dog weighing approx 90-120kgs. Its coat is short and coarse with tan and black markings. The Rotties height is 22-26 inches, with the dog being marginally larger than the bitch.

Hip dysplasia can be a problem with the Rottweiler. Itï¿½s certainly worth checking on the breeding stockï¿½s medical history before purchasing a Rottie. They are also prone to cancer. Rottweilers can become overweight easily, both diet and exercise need to be managed well to prevent the chance of diabetes, heart disease and arthritis that can be caused by obesity. This impressive canine is likely to live for 10-12 years.
