The Siberian Husky is an active, highly intelligent dog that originally worked hard as part of a team in pulling sledges through the snow. This dog has a capacity to work tirelessly and will need activity and stimulation to avoid any unwanted behavior. The Husky rarely barks preferring to howl –they are not suitable as guard dogs. Having a gentle temperament they make good companions and family dogs to active owners. The Husky can be stubborn and loves to explore beyond the permitted boundaries if it ever gets an opportunity. Consistent obedience training will be beneficial in discouraging unwanted behaviour.

The Siberian Husky is one of the Spitz genetic breeds. It resembles the appearance of a wolf, and is often mistaken for the Alaskan Malamute. The Husky has a very thick double coat which consists of a dense undercoat and a longer top coat, this coat can be in a variety of colours. It is not unusual to find a Husky with different coloured eyes, and this is recognized as quite acceptable to the breed standards. The dog weighs 45-60lbs, and the bitch is a lighter 35-55lbs. they are 20- 23 inches tall

In general the Siberian Husky enjoys a healthy life style, although it does seem predisposed to a range of eye defects including cataracts, glaucoma, clouding over of the cornea, and retinal atrophy. Hypothyroidism and epilepsy are also occasionally a problem.

The life expectancy for a Siberian Husky is 12-15 yrs
