Springer Spaniels for sale

With a reputation for being good natured and obedient the Springer Spaniel has become a popular choice as a family pet. They are also good with children and other pets, and they have a friendly outgoing nature. They are eager to please, and that, coupled with being intelligent, makes any training very rewarding and worthwhile. Being an active dog it needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep it interested, and prevent any unwanted behaviour.

The Springer was originally used for hunting and retrieving, they also love to swim.

This breed is medium sized weighing approx 20-25kgs and it has a height of approx43-51cms. They are predominantly white with liver or black markings. Their coat is moderately long with feathering on the tail and legs. There are however two quite separate lines of the English Springer Spaniel one being bred for shows, with a longer coat and the other a lighter framed working dog that is built for speed. Their appearance is markedly different.

Regular grooming will be required and trimming of hair on the underside of the dogs ears and between the pads of their feet. There is an average amount of coat shedding with this breed.

The English Springer is prone to a number of health issues including visual impairment from degeneration of the retina and retinal dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is another condition that can present with this breed, as with many other breeds. They are also predisposed to an autoimmune disease accompanied by a sensitivity to the environment. Ears need to be checked regularly for any troublesome yeast growth.

The life expectancy of Springer is around 12-14 years
